NRG might just be North America’s greatest hope at the BLAST Austin Major, but can the team lock up a spot in the second group stage by beating OG?

While saying “NA” after any given gaffe during a Counter-Strike tournament is a Twitch tradition, the continent has produced elite teams. 2025 isn’t a great year for NA Counter-Strike, but Team Liquid and Complexity Gaming have both proven themselves capable of winning against top-10 teams. But in the BLAST Austin Major, NRG took a decisive win over Complexity, so are they also at that level? They have the chance to prove it against a formidable OG lineup.

NRG vs OG in-depth team, match analysis

OG was regarded as a strong candidate to advance out of the BLAST Austin Major’s first group stage. You’d think they were one of the favorites to go 3-0 based on how they’ve performed, though. The team is the top-rated squad in the event thus far, even with a loss to its name.

Much of that is owed to nicoodoz. The Danish player has been white hot in the tournament, averaging 124.5 damage per round. OG’s success isn’t an individual effort by any means but if Nico “nicoodoz” Tamjidi keeps up his current pace, the team is going to be almost impossible to stop for anybody but Counter-Strike’s elites.

NRG has looked generally solid throughout the major thus far. It’s primarily been a meat-and-potatoes effort from the team, with most of its players putting in a solid showing. The exception to that is Jeorge “Jeorge” Endicott, who has been underwhelming in the tournament thus far. Not bad per se, but underwhelming.

With OG looking really strong, NRG will need Jeorge to step up his game and will have to find some way to bottle up nicoodoz. That’s going to be easier said than done, though.

• NRG has been grinding in 2025 and has been able to routinely get the better of teams on Dust 2 and Train, boasting very strong 24-5 and 12-5 records on the maps. It’s actually 50-50 or better on all the other maps it plays on, too.
• OG really likes to play on Ancient and has gone 32-13 on the map so far in 2025. It has a similarly strong winrate on Anubis and Nuke, though, albeit with fewer maps played there. On the flipside, the team goes 50-50 elsewhere.
• NRG permabans Ancient and while OG doesn’t have a true permaban, it has only played on Train twice so far in 2025.
