Initially (and rather casually) announced in May 2024, details about the Nintendo Switch 2 have slowly dripped from various sources. From suppliers providing the hardware specs to countless leakers speculating on the Switch 2 release date, the Switch 2 captured the imagination. That’s despite gamers having no idea when it would even come out.
After months of waiting, Nintendo kicks off the new year with a sleek trailer for the Nintendo Switch 2. Bigger and packed with more features, fans are eager to get their hands on the Nintendo Switch 2. Thankfully, they can expect the Nintendo Switch 2 soon.
The Nintendo Switch 2 will officially launch in 2025. Unlike the original Nintendo Switch, fans won’t have to wait two years from its official announcement to enjoy the new console. Instead, Nintendo has firmly made its plans known to release the Switch 2 in 2025. With GTA 6 coming out this year, a new era of gaming is just over the horizon.
Nintendo Switch 2 – First-look trailer
As for the Switch 2’s new look, it’s comfortably familiar. The overall aesthetics remain consistent with the OG design. The colorful controllers have become more subdued, and the portable screen has gotten significantly bigger. There’s also an add-on that allows players to convert the Switch 2 joysticks into a more traditional layout.
Nintendo will reveal more about the Switch 2 on April 2, 2025. Not much else was revealed by the trailer other than the aesthetic differences, and the fancy new controller add-on. The company also reaffirmed backward compatibility with multiple Nintendo Switch games, with more details to follow.
Gamers also got a glimpse of the latest Mario Kart game during the trailer, showcasing some slightly updated designs for the iconic characters. As for when fans can take the Switch 2 out for a test drive, Nintendo also has them covered.
Fans may attend the Nintendo Switch 2 Experience events held in the following locations:
Ticket registration for the Switch 2 US events starts on January 17, 2025, at 2 pm Pacific Time. Fans must have a Nintendo Online account ready to be eligible for the event. The ticket registration will be lottery-based and free to enter.
Tickets for the US events will stop going on sale on January 26, 2025.  There is currently no link to the registration site, so fans in the US should keep a close eye on Nintendo’s social media accounts. With this rollout, it’s clear the Nintendo Switch 2 is fully functional.
Nintendo fans around the world are hyped about the Nintendo Switch 2. With an imminent release date and fully playable prototypes already in existence, it’s only a matter of time before Nintendo shakes the gaming landscape once more.
