League of Legends patch 11.21 has brought a lot of new changes and a shift in the meta. One of the champions that are still considered way too strong for solo queue is Yuumi, who has seen some very high ban rates.Â
After seeing Yuumi being utilized to great success at the 2021 World Championship, it has seemed to affect the state of solo queue. While Yuumi hasn’t been buffed in recent months, she is seeing some very high ban rates across the board in all ranks. Most notably is Yuumi’s ban rate in Challenger rank, where she is banned in over 67% of games.Â
The same high numbers are seen in Grandmaster and Master rank, where Yuumi is banned in more than 60% of games. Looking at Platinum ranks and higher, Yuumi’s ban rate is closing in on 50% which generally means that the higher-ranked players in League of Legends agree that Yuumi shouldn’t be allowed in most games.Â
The reason for this isn’t just her success at Worlds 2021. For a long time, Yuumi has been considered a frustrating and annoying champion to play against, especially in higher ranks where people know how to utilize her strength and scaling. Paired up with a hyper carry in the bot lane, Yuumi can essentially carry a team as a support. Â
To avoid dealing with the Magical Cat, it’s always easiest to ban her out. If that doesn’t happen, then there’s a good chance that she will be picked up by one of the teams as her pick rate is currently sitting at 14.5%.
Despite the high pick and ban rate, Yuumi isn’t rocking a win rate that would indicate that she needs a nerf. In fact, Yuumi is only winning 49.52% of all games in Platinum ranks and higher. On paper, this isn’t impressive, but it’s still enough for players to fear the utility support.Â
Running into a bad or mediocre Yuumi player might not be scary as she can be shut down if played incorrectly, but it’s the fear of facing a good Yuumi player that is likely forcing the bans. A good Yuumi player can be a nuisance to deal with, especially if that Yuumi player is duo queuing with the marksman.
If the high ban and pick rate of Yuumi is enough for Riot games to pull the trigger on a nerf is still unknown, but it definitely seems like the player base is waiting for it.Â
