The upcoming release date of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 will mark the return of the real-time RPG series that has been on hiatus since 2017.
Anime RPG fans have plenty of options on the Nintendo Switch, but Xenoblade Chronicles 3 remains one of the most anticipated titles on the platform. With a release date schedule of late July, fans are already getting ready to dive into the fantasy world of Aionios with a brand new protagonist. Here’s everything about Xenoblade Chronicles 3 from its release date to its editions and story.
The release date for Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is now set July 29, 2022.
While a new Xenoblade game was heavily rumored in 2021, the game was only revealed in February 2022. An announcement trailer showed glimpses of the new cast also showcased a complete graphical overhaul. Xenoblade Chronicles has always put emphasis on presentation, and Chronicles 3 seems especially focused on graphics. Level backgrounds are incredibly detailed and character models are more nuanced than ever.
As a first-party Nintendo game, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 will be exclusive to the Nintendo Switch platform. The series has never been released on other consoles or on PC, so it’s safe to say that this trend will continue for the third Xenoblade Chronicles game.
As for editions, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 will release in the usual way for the standard $60 price tag. Fans of the series can also pick up Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Special Edition. This upgraded version includes a 250+ page hardcover art book and a steel case for the game. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Special Edition is only available through the Nintendo eShop and will probably not be sold in retail stores.
If you’re not too familiar with the Xenoblade series, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is a decent opportunity to hop in. The story of the game takes place on an entirely new continent with a brand-new cast.
Instead of Shulk or Pyra, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 will feature a new protagonist in Noah. A Keves native, Noah was raised as a musician who helps dead souls travel to the afterlife. It’s not clear how this will work in terms of gameplay, but early trailers show Noah fighting alongside a group of five other characters.
Considering that the new game will take place on an entirely new continent, it’s safe to assume that the established lore won’t matter too much in this new game. With that in mind, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is a great starting point for new fans and players looking to get into the Japanese RPG franchise.
