European bot lane star Martin “Rekkles” Larsson might be looking to part ways with G2 Esports ahead of the upcoming season after playing just two splits with the organization.

In a recent report by Dot Esports, it was revealed that G2 is holding tryouts to find a replacement for Rekkles and is in the process of selling his contract, which is set to last through November 2023. According to the sources, G2 has already informed its players and staff of Rekkles’ upcoming departure.

The departure of Rekkles would come just one year after he originally joined forces with one of the biggest esports organizations in the world. Rekkles’ move to G2 was considered one of the biggest in pro League of Legends history, and now it seems to be coming to an end much quicker and much less successfully than most would have expected.

Rekkles to leave G2 after missing 2021 World Championship

After a very disappointing season from G2, the relationship between the organization and Rekkles has reportedly been damaged. According to Dot Esports, Rekkles planned to attend the 2021 World Championship group draw show last week but declined last minute. This was a result of intense negotiations between him and the G2 organization.

Where Rekkles will end up next season remains unknown, though Team Vitality has reportedly shown interest in the Swedish superstar. But G2 reportedly isn’t open to negotiating with that organization as of now.

This potentially leaves Rekkles in a weird spot going into 2022, despite his still being one of the absolute best bot laners in the LEC. Even though it didn’t work out with his and G2’s play style, there should be a home out there where Rekkles can shine once again.

Official news on where Rekkles will end up and how the G2 roster will look in 2022 is expected to follow in the coming months.
