Why is Froskurinn leaving the LEC, and where is she going next?

Color commentator Indiana “Froskurinn” Black won’t be returning to the 2021 LEC Spring Split. Froskurinn is parting ways with the LEC after two years.

“I have decided not to re-sign with the LEC for the 2021 season. I cannot reveal the next steps yet, but I’ve always felt strongly about moving into management and development positions. I wish the LEC broadcast, teams, and fans the very best. I absolutely loved it there,” wrote Froskurinn on Twitter.

Froskurinn is no stranger to other roles in League of Legends. Before starting her career as a caster, Froskurinn worked with Dignitas Europe as an analyst and assistant coach. Froskurinn is yet another on-air talent that decides to part ways with Riot Games and pursue a different path.

It’s not a surprise that Froskurinn decided to go for a career change. Ever since she joined the LEC, Froskurinn has been the target of criticism by members of the LoL community. LEC viewers took the opportunity to list all of the reason why they don’t like Froskurinn on a Reddit thread. Froskurinn did not take the discussion well, making a point of further antagonizing her critics.

“Ahhh one last reddit hate thread. Nice. I gave you so much of my life and effort and it was never worth it to try for your acceptance. You don’t know anything; you torture players and personalities. You truly are – and I mean this – the worst aspect of this incredible community,” wrote Froskurinn after the announcement.

In the words of someone much more eloquent than me:

“Die mad.”

Another reason for the departure could be a disagreement with Riot Games. Back in December, the developer announced proudly that it would be giving its employees an end of year bonus. The LEC on-air talent jumped in to clarify that they wouldn’t be receiving any type of bonus. According to Aaron “Medic” Chamberlain, all caster were demoted to contractor status and weren’t given the option to stay on as full-time employees.

Good to see Riot appreciating the full time employees that worked for them through the year.

Where will Froskurinn go next?

While the former caster has been sharing LPL content on her timeline, it’s unlikely that Froskurinn is going back to China. It’s possible that Froskurinn may join a team in a management role, similar to Christopher “PapaSmithy” Smith, who left the LCK to join 100 Thieves as general manager.

Who is Froskurinn?

Indiana “Froskurinn” Black is a former LEC and LPL color caster from North America. In January 2021, Froskurinn announced that she would not be returning to the LEC.

Where is Quickshot from?

LEC play-by-play caster Trevor “Quickshot” Henry is originally from South Africa. Quickshot currently lives in Berlin, Germany.

When does the LEC start?

The 2021 LEC Spring Split starts on January 22.
