The Call of Duty League Championship is the biggest esports tournament for the biggest first-person shooter series. The 2022 event will be the 10th edition of the competition, and players and fans are excited to watch the action unfold. The 2022 Call of Duty League Championship will be held between August 4 and 7 at the Galen Center in Los Angeles, California. The eight best CoD teams in the world will compete for a massive $2,550,000 prize, but only one can walk away with the championship.

The Championship represents the final event of the 2022 Call of Duty League which began in early February. The winner of the 2022 Call of Duty League Championship will take home a staggering $1.2 million and shine in the glory of lifting the CDL 2022 trophy. Even second place will win $650,000, and the event boasts a prize total over $2.5 million. The event is entirely free to watch across all major streaming services, but those watching live on the official YouTube channel, there will be the opportunity to win some great prizes for the Call of Duty Warzone and Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War.

The tournament format is double elimination, with a best-of-five series until the grand final. The last two DLC 2022 contenders will fight a best-of-nine series for the biggest prize in CoD history. The game types for the event will be Hardpoint, Search and Destroy, and Control. The maps used will include Berlin, Bocage, Gavutu, Tuscan, and Desert Siege.

The teams and favorites for the 2022 CDL Championship

The following teams will play at The Call of Duty League Championship 2022, in order of CDL season rankings.

  • Atlanta FaZe
  • OpTic Texas
  • Los Angeles Thieves
  • London Royal Ravens
  • Seattle Surge
  • Boston Breach
  • Toronto Ultra
  • New York Subliners

These eight teams earned a spot at the 2022 CDL Championships by performing well in the regular Call of Duty League season. If you’re familiar with Call of Duty betting, you’ve probably seen these team names in the sportsbook all season long.

When predicting a potential winner for the Call of Duty League Championship 2022, it’s easy to begin with the defending champion from last year. Atlanta FaZe defeated Toronto Ultra 5-3 in the 2021 grand final after cruising through the second and fourth rounds without losing a single game. The FaZe roster for the 2021 CDL Championship will include the following players.

  • Tyler “aBeZy” Pharris
  • Alec “Arcitys” Sanderson
  • McArthur “Cellium” Jovel
  • Chris “Simp” Lehr

That places Atlanta FaZe in a strong position. Based on previous results, FaZe is likely to enter the event as the betting favorite.

However, it is worth noting that since the Stage 1 Major qualifiers in February, Atlanta FaZe have failed to finish in first place. FaZe came second in Stage 1, Stage 2, and Stage 3 Majors. It’s certainly very impressive, but it’s telling that the team failed each time in the grand final. The team placed third in the Stage 4 Major, but there’s something to be said for consistency at the highest level of play.

OpTic Texas was the second team to claim a spot at the 2022 Call of Duty League Championship. The squad earned two championships in 2022, coming out on top at both Stage 1 and 2 Major qualifiers. OpTic Texas also finished second at the Stage 3 Major qualifiers, but the team has also put up some disappointing performances. The team failed to impress at Resurgence and the Stage 3 Major, which could bode poorly for it at the championship event. Nonetheless, OpTic Texas certainly has the talent to win the 2022 Call of Duty League Championship.

Some of the other teams who could be in contention to win the Call of Duty League Championship 2022 include Seattle Surge and LA Guerrillas. Seattle Surge enters the 2022 CDL Championship already a champion after a big win at the Stage 3 Major. The Surge also came second in the Kickoff Classic, though that result came at the beginning of the year. LA Thieves took a highly-competitive silver at the Pro Am Classic along with a great finish at the Stage 4 Major. Popular main AR Sam “Octane” Larew has put up great numbers all season long, which he will hope to continue at the 2022 CDL Championship.
