The God of War series has taken players on a journey through different mythologies. In God of War Ragnarok, players get to meet a version of Odin and Thor that’s different than what people have seen on the big screen.

God of War Ragnarok takes place roughly three years after the events of God of War (2018). The story starts with Fimbulwinter, one of the signs of Ragnarok that was triggered by the death of Baldur. Ragnarok is a catastrophic event that according to prophecies could bring the apocalypse and the death of the Norse Gods.

Who is Odin in God of War Ragnarok?

Odin is the Ruler of Valhalla, King of Asgard, King of the Aesir Gods, and Norse God of the Sky, War, Death, Wisdom, Poetry, and Magic. Odin is responsible for the events of God of War since he sent Baldur to find Freya. Odin is the main antagonist and final boss in the game.

Odin is an old man with an eye patch. He is obsessed with knowledge, very smart, manipulative, deceiving, and extremely paranoid. The God is also vengeful and petty. Odin is constantly doing anything in his power, which isn’t little, to prepare for Ragnarok. At some point, Odin seizes control of Valhalla with the only goal of creating an army to defend the Gods through Ragnarok.

The story of Odin in God of War Ragnarok is slightly different from the source material. In the game, Loki is not Odin’s adoptive son. The title of Loki, God of Mischief is held by Atreus, Kratos’ son.

Who is Thor?

Thor is the Norse Aesir God of thunder, lightning, storms, and strength. Thor’s first appearance was during the true ending of God of War. He returns to God of War Ragnarok as a secondary antagonist.

Thor is seeking revenge for the death of his brother Baldur, which leads him to Kratos and Atreus. Throughout the game, the players will encounter Thor but his true form is never revealed. He is believed to have red hair and blue eyes but other details about his appearance are not confirmed. In both God of War and God of War Ragnarok, he’s shown as a cloaked man with a hammer.

Thor is ruthless, arrogant, and cruel but strangely honorable. Thor cares about his family, even if he shows it in violent ways. Thor and Odin have a tragic encounter in God of War Ragnarok that we can’t spoil!
