Which teams are qualified for the 2020 LoL World Championship?

The 2020 World Championship is right around the corner and all teams save for one have been decided. But who will be fighting for the Summoner’s Cup this year?

Once again, teams from all around the world will compete to determine the best League of Legends team in the world. Originally, 24 teams were set to compete, but unfortunately Vietman’s VCS teams won’t be able to attend due to travel restrictions.

The absence of the VCS teams left Riot Games with a big dilemma that resulted in some format changes. This years’ play-in stage will include only 10 teams, while the third seed from the LCK will qualify directly to the main event.

That changes leave us with a total of 22 teams, most of whom have already been decided. The last team to be decided is the LCK’s third seed, which will be determined on September 9.

Both the LEC and LPL will have four teams at the event due to strong recent international performances. The previous two World Championships have been won by an LPL team, specifically by Invictus Gaming and FunPlus Phoenix, beating two European teams, Fnatic and G2 Esports, from the LEC. The performance speaks for itself, so having four teams from the two best regions of the past two years will only increase the competitive level of the tournament.

The LCS and LCK will have three seeds each, while the remaining seeds belong to upcoming minor regions. Without further ado, let’s take a look at all the teams.

LPL (China)

  • Top Esports
  • JD Gaming
  • Suning
  • LGD Gaming (play-in)

LEC (Europe)

  • G2 Esports
  • Fnatic
  • Rogue
  • MAD Lions (play-in)

LCK (Korea)

  • DAMWON Gaming
  • DragonX
  • Gen.G

LCS (North America)

  • Team SoloMid
  • FlyQuest
  • Team Liquid (play-in)

PCS (TW/HK/MO/SEA)

  • Machi Esports
  • PSG Talon (play-in)

CBLOL (Brazil)

  • INTZ (play-in)

LCL (CIS)

  • Unicorns of Love (play-in)

LJL (Japan)

  • V3 Esports (play-in)

LLA (Latin America)

  • Rainbow7 (play-in)

OPL (Oceania)

  • Legacy Esports (play-in)

TCL (Turkey)

  • Papara SuperMassive (play-in)

The play-in stage includes several dark horses that could perform well at the tournament, but only four teams can qualify for the main event. At the main event, the biggest favorites are to be found in the likes of Top Esports and JD Gaming, who have been performing very well in the LPL. From the LEC, G2 Esports is looking to perform even better than last year, while DAMWON Gaming is coming in at full-speed after dominating the LCK. Without Cloud9 in attendance, the LCS may not have a clear favorite at the competition.

The 2020 World Championship will kick off on September 25 with the play-in stage.
