Metal Gear Solid 3 is one of the most revered titles in gaming history to date, but when can fans expect the MGS3 remake to actually release?

The Metal Gear franchise is all but dead, but that hasn’t stopped it from remaining an important part of gaming culture. The third game in the series, originally intended to be the franchise finale, stands out for its immersive sim gameplay and incredibly memorable characters.

The Metal Gear franchise is all but dead, but that hasn’t stopped it from remaining an important part of gaming culture. The third game in the series, originally intended to be the franchise finale, stands out for its immersive sim gameplay and incredibly memorable characters.

The new Metal Gear Solid 3 was first announced on May 24, 2023. The PlayStation Showcase trailer showed cinematic footage of the Tselinoyarsk jungle, paying particular attention to the local food chain. It ends with the reveal of Naked Snake prowling through the swamp. Aside from confirming PlayStation exclusivity and the return of the iconic theme song, the trailer showed very little.

So, based purely on the timing of the announcement, when can fans expect to experience the intense origin story of the entire series on new hardware?

MGS3 Remake release date could be in 2024

Based on the complete lack of info and barebones trailer, expect an MGS3 remake release date sometime late in 2024.

This rough timeline is inspired by the trailer, which showed zero gameplay footage and probably isn’t even a repurposed cutscene. That implies that development is still very early in progress. However, Naked Snake’s appearance also shows that his design is either complete or close to being finalized. That means that art for the game is probably far along in development, though gameplay and environments are still in the early stages.

MGS3 remake Naked Snake

All of this is just theorizing, as there’s ultimately very little information on the remake since it was announced. Konami is not exactly a game development company, first and foremost, though the game is also being worked on by Virtuos. That company has helped produce several well-known games, including Nier Automata, The Callisto Protocol, and other big releases. Late 2024 is optimistic, and a 2025 release date could be on the table for the MGS3 remake.
