What we know about Spectre Divide gameplay and playtest
A new FPS game has entered the fray, but it’s probably unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. Spectre Divide lets you play a round in two different bodies.
Former CS2 professional player Michael “shroud” Grzesiek has been working alongside developer Mountaintop to create the perfect team-based shooter. Spectre Divide borrows visuals from CS2 with cel-shading and has Valorant-style shooting. But, when you actually play the game, it couldn’t be more different than any of the existing shooter titles.
Game director Lee Horn says that their shooter tackles the common issue of “sitting and watching” in FPS games, where eliminated players are forced to watch the round unfold from the sidelines.
How to apply for Spectre Divide playtest
Fans can apply for Spectre Divide playtest by going to the game’s Steam page and clicking on “Request access.”
Spectre Divide recently came out of closed alpha. According to playtesters, the game looked polished and ready to be shipped, which means it won’t be too long before it’s out for broader beta testing. The green “request access” icon on the game’s Steam page is proof of that.
Once you’ve clicked on the button, your application will automatically be submitted. If you’ve been shortlisted, you will receive an email with the next steps to enter the Spectre Divide playtest.
While Mountaintop hasn’t revealed a set date for playtest, it’s allowing players to apply for the next testing period. We recommend submitting an application anyway to get instant access to the game whenever the next playtest goes live.
How Duality works in Spectre Divide gameplay
Spectre Divide’s hook is Duality, a mechanic that lets you alternate between two separate bodies. This means, you can come back into the game after getting eliminated once
In this game, players get two bodies that are called Spectres. You can summon the other Spectre using a puck if you need to hide in cover nearby after picking a fight. Whenever there’s danger around your idle Spectre, you’ll get notified since both bodies share the same brain.
While Spectre Divide is a 3v3 game, the concept of Duality makes it a 6v6. While it’s an unexplored area in the FPS genre, players are excited to give this complex but unique gimmick a shot.
