Alongside a Persona 5 Royal port for the Nintendo Switch, the most recent versions of the PlayStation 2-era Persona games are coming to the platform. Here are the details and release date information for Persona 4 Golden and Persona 3 Portable on the Nintendo Switch.
During the Nintendo Direct Mini on June 28, Nintendo confirmed a Switch release for the most recent versions of the three most recent Persona titles. This will see the PlayStation 4’s Persona 5 Royal, PS Vita’s Persona 4 Golden, and PSP’s Persona 3 Portable all come to the platform. This follows a number of spin-offs of the series being released on the Switch and other Nintendo platforms.
While P5R received a Nintendo Switch release date, that wasn’t the case with Persona 4 Golden or Persona 3 Portable. Here’s what we know so far about the games’ upcoming release.
The Persona series is coming to Nintendo Switch!
No official release date was confirmed for the Nintendo Switch launches of Persona 4 Golden or Persona 3 Portable.
While P5R has a definite release date for other platforms, there’s no clear release date for the Xbox or Nintendo Switch versions of Persona 4 Golden and Persona 3 Portable. The Nintendo Direct Mini trailer ended with the reveal the games are “coming soon” but there’s no way to guess whether that means in one month, six months, or a year.
Persona 4 Golden is an enhanced port of PlayStation 2 RPG Persona 4. The game was originally released on the PlayStation Vita in 2011 and was later ported to PC in 2020.
Persona 4 Golden has a number of extra features relative to the original release. This includes new social links, a new NPC, new Personas, more cutscenes and events, and the integration of online features that show what other players did during a free time session.Â
Both the PC and PS Vita releases of Persona 4 Golden received very high praise from critics. The games boast an 87 and 93 media average on Metacritic, respectively.
Persona 3 Portable is an altered port of Persona 3 from the PlayStation 2. The game was originally released on the PlayStation Portable in 2009 in Japan, and 2010 in the west.

The game has a number of new features, at the expense of several removed features due to the limitations of the PSP. The game removed FMV cutscenes and does not include the extra content added in the faux “director’s cut” version of the game, Persona 3 FES.Â
On the flipside it has an improved battle system based on Persona 4, new story events, and the ability to play as a female main character. Navigation of the world is also heavily overhauled, with no overworld movement being included in favor of a visual novel approach to the game being used outside of battle
