Virtus.pro, Fnatic among Chongqing Major qualifiers

The Chongqing Major qualified teams are settled, and they will soon take part in a prestigious tournament with $1 million 15 thousand Dota Pro Circuit points at stake.

The Chongqing Major CIS Qualifier was headlined by top teams from the region including Virtus.pro, NoPangolier, Gambit Esports, and Natus Vincere.

Unexpectedly, NoPangolier took the first spot. NoPangolier defeated Virtus.pro in a 2-1 final, while the favorites at Virtus.pro secured their own Chongqing Major spot through winning the loser’s bracket.  

After winning the Kuala Lumpur Major, Virtus.pro will aim to take another major tournament trophy in the upcoming Chongqing Major. The team dominated the group stage with a clean score but couldn’t quite figure out NoPangolier in the playoffs.

Currently, Virtus.pro is at the top of the DPC standings.

Elsewhere, the Chongqing Major SEA Qualifier told a similar story with top teams battling for the coveted Major spots. These teams included TNC Predator, Mineski, Fnatic, and Tigers.

Fnatic took the first spot in the Chongqing Major. They had a successful upper bracket run defeating Mineski in a clean 2-0 sweep and TNC Predator in a closer 2-1 series.

TNC Predator then faced Mineski for the last SEA spot in the Chongqing Major. The series ended with a 2-1 score favoring TNC.

TNC’s spot in the major came with controversy due to Carlo “Kuku” Palad’s involvement in a recent racism scandal. Developer Valve chose to step in and ban Kuku from the major, forcing TNC to find a substitute player.

Teams who failed to qualify in the Chongqing Major will be given another chance in the upcoming Bucharest Minor , where the winner will be awarded the final guaranteed slot in the major tournament.
