Former Rocket League World Champion Jos “ViolentPanda” van Meurs is now engaged after staging a surprise marriage proposal Rocket League Championship Series Fall Split Major.
ViolentPanda is one of the most successful Rocket League players in history, with two World Championship titles under his belt. In the most recent event, taking place in Rotterdam, ViolentPanda popped the question on stage. The player got engaged to Mellina Kong, who is a Twitch streamer that works for TikTok. The couple has been together for over five years.
In this event, ViolentPanda received a tribute for his remarkable career. ViolentPanda started playing at a professional level in 2015. Throughout his career, ViolentPanda played for different teams, including the American organization Dignitas. As part of Dignitas, ViolentPanda would go on to win two World Championship titles.
Ahead of season 10, the player shared that he had injuries in both thumbs. The injuries forced him to cut back on the hours he spent training and ultimately got him behind in comparison to his teammates. On October 27, ViolentPanda announced that after six years as a player and a surprise proposal, he would be retiring from competitive play. The player clarified that the decision to retire had nothing to do with the injuries.
The announcement came days after ViolentPanda’s participation in the RLCS Fall Open Qualifier. In this event, ViolentPanda played with the same team he created in 2015, The 3 Musketeers. The team placed 13th in the event. Â
“Thank you to all of my fans for the support I have received throughout a big part of my life. Thank you to everyone who gave me the opportunity to represent them, and I hope that I repaid you tenfold what you gave to me,” he wrote.
The former player said that he is hoping to put all of his knowledge to use as a coach or manager. He also said to be interested in the business side of esports, where he believes he can make a difference.
