At a Dota 2 live event, Vici Gaming is possibly the best team in the world. In online leagues, the team doesn’t seem to be nearly as threatening.
Though Vici Gaming hasn’t necessarily been performing poorly, the team hasn’t looked nearly as scary in regional competitions as it once did in international contests. Will an inconsistent Royal Never Give Up be able to take advantage of them in their week two matchup in the DPL-CDA Professional League Season 1?
Before events started being frequently cancelled and reimagined as online leagues, Vici Gaming was on a roll. The team was almost guaranteed a spot in The International 2020 after taking second place at the MDL Chengdu Major and third at DreamLeague Season 13. Also included were first-place finishes in ONE Esports Dota 2 World Pro Invitational Singapore and Midas Mode 2.0.
Vici Gaming hasn’t completely imploded in the weeks since, but the team doesn’t look nearly as good as it did prior. The team took second in China Dota2 Professional League Season 1, fourth in ESL One Los Angeles’ Chinese league, and seventh in CDA League Season 1.
Vici Gaming hasn’t looked much better so far in the DPL-CDA Pro League so far. The team will enter this matchup at 2-2 in the group stage, with their wins coming over some of the weaker teams and their losses coming from the favorites. Vici Gaming is competing at full strength at the event thus, with its full lineup intact:
Vici Gaming has it in them to be the best team in the world, but their current form makes it hard to view them as a decided favorite against any top team.
Royal Never Give Up’s strong pedigree in League of Legends seems to have carried over to Dota 2. Despite being a newcomer to the crowded scene, RNG has established itself as one of the game’s top Chinese organization and posted a number of strong placements. The team posted a surprise top-eight finish at The International 2019, but shook up its roster a bit with new support players before eventually settling on the following lineup:
Royal Never Give Up has posted generally solid results in online leagues. With the exception of a weak sixth-place finish in the CDA League RNG has performed very well, most notably winning the ESL One Los Angeles Chinese League.
That said, RNG is off to a poor start in the DPL-CDA Professional League Season 1. The team has gone 0-2 in the group stage so far with losses to EHOME and Invictus Gaming. RNG is also set to face PSG.LGD ahead of this matchup with Vici Gaming, which could see them sink into a deep 0-3 hole to start the league.
As of this writing, Winners.bet has the odds for Vici Gaming vs. RNG at 1.93 vs. 1.77. That means that RNG is a modest favorite, though both teams provide a strong return on a winning prediction.
Almost all previous results suggest that Vici Gaming is the better team between the two, which makes that 1.93 line on VG an intriguing one. RNG could absolutely take the win here, but there’s definite value in all things Vici in this matchup.
