Top groups at FACEIT Major: London
The New Legends Stage at the FACEIT Major: London has wrapped up with some surprising teams making the playoffs.
Topping the groups with 3-0 records are North American staples Team Liquid and CompLexity Gaming. Astralis, Natus Vincere, and BIG all made the cut at 3-1. FaZe Clan, HellRaisers, and Made in Brazil round out the eight-team New Champions Stage, sneaking in with 3-2 records.
These teams have advanced to the FACEIT Major: London playoffs, which will be contested in a single-elimination bracket featuring best-of-three series play. These eight teams have additionally earned invitations to the IEM Katowice Major 2019 in February.
The biggest surprise of the lot is CompLexity. While coL is a solid squad on the North American regional circuit, the team wasn’t expected to clear the New Challengers stage of the tournament. Jumping that hurdle comes as a shock to fans and opposing players alike.
CompLexity’s surprise run came at the expense of the rest of the talent pool, which saw a number of surprising early eliminations. North and OpTic Gaming failed to advance out of the New Challengers stage, while Mousesports and Winstrike both washed out of the New Legends stage without a win.
The tournament continues in the playoff round with CompLexity facing MIBR and BIG taking on Na’Vi.
