Sylveon has finally made its entry into Pokémon GO after years of waiting. Just like other Eeveelutions, Sylveon can be acquired through a name trick or by earning friendship hearts with Eevee.

Sylveon is the last Eeveelution to enter Pokémon GO, as the other seven have been possible to get for a while now. This has had people wondering when the fairy type would enter the game and now the wait is finally over. As a part of the Luminous Legends Y event, players from all over the world will be able to get a Sylveon through some easy tasks.

To help along the way, here’s how to get Sylveon in Pokémon GO.

How to evolve Eevee into Sylveon in Pokémon GO

The first thing to do when working towards a Sylveon is picking the right Eevee to evolve. To help decide, it’s worth looking at the CP and IVs of Eevee. As Sylveon is a special Pokémon and will likely be one of the strongest fairy types in the game, make sure that it’s as strong as possible. Having a mix of high CP and strong IVs will make up for the absolute best Sylveon. With enough Eevee candy and Stardust, it’s worth taking one with lower CP to get the best IVs possible.

After choosing the Eevee to evolve, Sylveon can be acquired in two different ways. The very first Sylveon can be evolved by using a name trick, which is something that has been possible for every Eeveelution so far. To get the first Sylveon, all that has to be done is change the name of the Eevee to “Kira.” When that is done, the silhouette on the evolve button should have Sylveon displayed. Press “evolve” at the cost of 25 Eevee candies and the first Sylveon will be in the Pokédex.

When the name trick is used, a little more work has to be put in to get a Sylveon. Getting another Sylveon required some work with Eevee as a buddy. More specifically, it requires 70 buddy hearts. Hearts can be earned with your buddy Pokémon by giving treats, playing, taking snapshots, and more. In other words, evolving into Sylveon requires great friendship with Eevee.

All Pokémon GO evolution name tricks

With Sylveon added to Pokémon GO, all eight Eeveelutions are now in the game. For new players, it will be a grind to get one of each as a fun side mission. The easiest way is to catch a lot of Eevee and use the different name tricks. Each evolution has its own name trick, which can be used one time per account.

All Eevee name tricks in Pokémon GO:

  • Rename Eevee to “Kira” to evolve into Sylveon
  • Rename Eevee to “Pyro” to evolve into Flareon
  • Rename Eevee to “Sparky” to evolve into Jolteon
  • Rename Eevee to “Rainer” to evolve into Vaporeon
  • Rename Eevee to “Tamao” to evolve into Umbreon
  • Rename Eevee to “Sakura” to evolve into Espeon
  • Rename Eevee to “Linnea” to evolve into Leafeon
  • Rename Eevee to “Rea” to evolve into Glaceon

With the whole Eevee collection in the Pokédex, it will be possible to take on most Pokémon in fights. As Eevee can evolve into a lot of different types, it’s almost always possible to find an Eeveelution that will be super effective against the opponent.
