These teams have locked in playoffs spots ahead of LEC Week 8

Reading time: 2 min

The 2022 LEC Spring Split is entering its final week of the regular split this weekend, where the league’s playoff teams and their seeds will be determined.

Going into the week, a total of four teams have already secured their spots in the playoffs while two teams are completely out of contention. The first team to secure a playoff spot was Rogue, who has been leading the charge for most of the split and still is with a 12-3 record. Right behind them is Fnatic, also looking more than ready for the LEC playoffs.

Going down to third and fourth place in the standings, Misfits Gaming and G2 Esports are into the playoffs with 10-5 and 9-6 records respectively. Both teams will be fighting hard for the best seed possible during this last week, even though it will be hard to catch the likes of Rogue and Fnatic.

Misfits is the biggest surprise of them all this split and has against all odds climbed the standings. Despite its young roster, Misfits has shown a great understanding of the meta and will be the big wild card going into the first LEC playoffs of the year 2022.

Moving into the last week of the regular split, two playoff spots are still up for grabs. The teams with the best chance to take these are Excel and Team Vitality, but other LEC teams could still make a run at them.

Astralis and Team BDS to miss LEC playoffs

Looking at the bottom of the standings, two teams have already missed their shot at the LEC playoffs. This includes Astralis in last place, a team that hasn’t been able to chain together consecutive wins this split.

With just one more win than Astralis is the new team in the league, Team BDS, and this new squad is also looking at an early spring break. Even though the team has played some promising games considering how new the roster is, it hasn’t been enough to secure more than four wins so far out of 15 games played in total.

The teams who are closest to joining Astralis and BDS outside of of the playoffs are SK Gaming and MAD Lions, both sitting at a 5-10 record. They still have a chance to make a miracle run into the playoffs, but it will require both some wins and a bit of luck.

It’s a particular surprise to see MAD Lions this low in the standings, as they are the defending champions. Whether MAD Lions can make a desperate run for playoffs will be decided when week 8 kicks off on Friday, March 4.
