Meowth

Cats are one of the most popular pets in the world. Over 25% of households in the United States alone have at least one cat. But if you can’t get enough cats, you can also own cats in Pokemon! There are a ton of cats throughout the many Pokemon generations, each with their own powers and unique looks. Here are some of the coolest cats in Pokemon.

The best cats in Pokemon

There are tons of cat Pokemon to choose from, but we’ve narrowed it down to some of the most interesting and some of the strongest cat-like Pokemon in the series.

Persian

Persian is one of the OG cats in Pokemon, popular for its realistic wildcat looks and for being owned by Giovanni, the leader of criminal organization Team Rocket. Persian is the evolution of Meowth, a sassy, more human-like cat Pokemon. It’s a large and aggressive Pokemon that will forever be cherished as the series continues.

Liepard

Liepard is a sporty combination of a spotted leopard and black panther, creating a cat that looks like a vigilante anti-hero with a mask and sleek body. This powerful feline has 446 total base stats and utilizes dark and fighting-type moves. This stealthy cat uses Prankster and Limber to take control of any fight.

7/10

Pyroar

This lion-like Pokemon is the evolution of Litleo, a small lion cub Pokemon. The male version of Pyroar has a colorful mane that resembles a flower on fire. While Pyroar isn’t too impactful in games like Pokemon GO, few can resist this majestic Pokemon. It’s visually one of the coolest cat Pokemon out there.

7/10

Espeon

It’s not actually clear what inspired Espeon and Umbreon, but the two Eeveelutions have a lot of cat-like features, especially Espeon. Its cat-like eyes, mysterious behavior, and long tail definitely speak to feline origins. Its psychic abilities are also reminiscent of the mythical Lynx. This slinky Pokemon just has to be a cat!

6/10

Purugly

What’s better than a cat? A fat cat! Purugly is the evolution of Glameow, weighing almost 100 pounds. That’s a massive kitty! Purugly has a base stat total of 452 and has moves like Knock Off, U-Turn, and Sucker Punch. This is one big cat you don’t want to mess with, or you’re about to be pummeled with the strongest paws in Pokemon.

8/10

Incineroar

Incineroar caused a bit of controversy when itfirst arrived on the scene. The anthropomorphic Pokemon was seen as furry-bait, especially since Litten was such an adorable first evolution. What happened? Why is he on two legs? Why is he a wrestler? Still, Incineroar remains a popular cat-like Pokemon due to its inclusion in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and its fun personality.

6/10

Raikou

This mythical, powerful Pokemon is one of the most memorable legendary beasts. It has a unique look that appears to be a saber tooth tiger mixed with various elements, like lightning and wind. This electric-type Pokemon is inspired by the Raiju, a Thunder Beast from Japanese mythology.

8/10

Sogaleo

This is one of the most powerful legendary Pokemon, able to destroy enemies with a single attack. Sunsteel Strike is a terrifying move, along with Metal Body, Earthquake, and Wild Charge. This is a dangerous Pokemon that represents Pokemon Sword & Shield, even appearing on the cover for those games.
