The Witcher 3 is getting a fresh coat of paint in an update scheduled for December of this year.

CD Projekt Red has announced a new update for The Witcher 3 designed to bring the game’s visuals up to par with the newest generation of video game consoles. The update is scheduled to release on December 14, 2022, and will be free for everyone who already owns The Witcher 3. This surprise could be a part of CD Projekt’s attempt to revitalize the Witcher franchise with a new fleet of games.

The Polish game development studio revealed its project early on November 14 through social media. The announcement did not specify exactly what the update will contain, but it said that fans can learn more about the changes in an upcoming developer stream sometime next week.

The Witcher 3 PS5 and Series update release date

The free update for The Witcher 3 on PS5 and Xbox Series has an intended release date of December 14, 2022.

CD Projekt Red has not revealed details about The Witcher 3’s free next-gen changes, but it plans to explain its goals during a developer-led stream sometime between November 20 and 26. The stream will most likely take place on the official CD Projekt Red Twitch channel, though more details should come out before the show goes live.

While no details are certain, this update will most likely apply a graphical overhaul to The Witcher 3 to make the game look and perform better on the newest generation of gaming consoles. For all fans know, it could be simply changing the settings to their maximum PC equivalents with some optimizations for the hardware.

It will most likely not include any new gameplay, but Geralt of Rivia fans will have plenty to sink their teeth into as CD Projekt has recently announced a new lineup of Witcher games and another original IP.
