LCK, the biggest League of Legends league in South Korea, saw big viewer numbers in 2020, only beaten by the 2020 World Championship.

The LCK has been booming all year to a point where no other esports league in the world has been able to follow up. According to Esports Charts, the LCK spring and summer split was the most popular esports tournaments by hours watched only beating by the 2020 World Championship.

Most watched #esports tournaments in 2020:

#1 – #Worlds2020
#2 – #LCK Spring @LCK_Global
#3 – #LCK Summer @LCK_Global
#4 – #LEC Summer @LEC
#5 – #PMWL East @esportspubgm

The stats don’t only speak to the fact that League of Legends has a giant audience, but also that Korea is still a hotspot for quality gameplay. These numbers do not include Chinese viewers, which means that the LPL is likely above the LCK. The numbers from Esports Charts are pulled from Western and Korean streaming sites, but they are still some impressive numbers.

Behind the LCK is the European LEC with a total of 41 million hours watched in the summer split. The summer split is usually the most exciting since teams are fighting for a spot at the annual world championship. Impressively enough, the most popular split in the LCK was in spring.

This might have something to do with the fact that T1 was doing well and even ended up winning the split. Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok and the rest of T1 is by far the biggest fan favorite in Korea, always pulling in big viewer numbers.

Looking ahead at 2021, these numbers are likely to increase even more. With the 2020 World Championship closing in on 140 million hours watched tells us that the Lol Esports scene is still growing. In 2021, players and fans might be returning to live stadiums and pull in even bigger viewer numbers.

The 2021 LoL season officially kicks off in January.

Worlds 2020

What is the LCK?

The League Championship Korea, also known as the LCK, is the best League of Legends league in South Korea. The league hosts the 10 top teams in the region and will from 2021 be a franchised league like the LEC, LCS, and LPL. Some of the best teams in the history of LoL have participated in the LCK, with DAMWON as the recent example after it won the 2020 World Championship.

Who won the LCK 2020?

The LCK has two splits each year called the spring and summer split. In 2020, the spring split was won by none other than T1 after a dominating performance in the playoffs. In the summer split, the LCK jokers from DAMWON took over and no one was able to keep up. DAMWON played a close to flawless split, only losing two games in total before lifting the trophy.

Who won the LoL Worlds 2020?

DAMWON won the 2020 World Championship, right after dominating the 2020 LCK Summer Split. Going into 2020, no one would have expected DAMWON to be the ones lifting the Summoner’s Cup, but the steady improvements of the talented squad ended up paying dividends. In just two seasons, DAMWON has gone from qualifying to the LCK to being world champions.
