The easy way to get free Discord PFP skins
Discord knows that gamers are its target audience, so the introduction of paid PFP skins was only a matter of time.
Cosmetics are a huge deal in video games these days. From expansive crossovers to insane price tags, it seems every live service game has some way for players to trick out their characters. In the case of Discord, it’s a little more complicated. The chat service has rolled out special skins for users’ profiles. These range from borders around profile pictures to animated effects on biography banners. However, these can be surprisingly pricy, and they’re not super common as a result.
However, there’s also a way to get Discord PFP skins for free, and it’s even easier than users may expect.
How to get free PFP skins from Discord quests
Discord quests often grant free PFP skins as a reward, making them an easy way to stack up cosmetics.
Quests are Discord’s way of advertising games, movies, and television shows within the client. When a user logs on, they’ll see any available quests on the right side of the screen above their connection controls. There’s not always a quest available, and it appears that not all users get access to all quests. For this reason, it is best to complete them as soon as possible. Luckily, they’re usually quite easy to do.
For example, the above quest is an advertisement for Meta virtual reality title Batman: Arkham Shadow. All users have to do is watch a 30-second video and claim their reward. In this case, the prize is a free animated Discord PFP skin themed around the game.
Advertisements are the most common form of Discord quest, but there are other types that can be more involved. The official FAQ mentions that some quests will involve actually playing a particular game or streaming it for friends to watch. It’s not clear what rewards will be available for those quests, but it will likely be more free skins.
Just note that quest rewards aren’t always permanent. The Batman cosmetic is only available for two months and will permanently expire afterward. However, skins purchased through the Nitro store are permanent. If chatters want their self-expression to be permanent, that remains their only option.
