Christmas is right around the corner, and any Dota 2 fan would love a gift commemorating their favorite video game.
With over 120 characters and two decades of history, Dota 2 remains one of the most popular games on the planet. Valve’s competitive MOBA draws in millions of players every day, and the competitive scene is still going strong in 2024. For people with a Dota 2 fan in their life, it’s a great idea to get them a Christmas gift referencing the game. However, with so many options at so many price points, what’s the best option?
Here are three ideas for Dota 2-themed Christmas presents right on time for the 2024 holidays.
Here are three Christmas gift ideas perfect for Dota 2 fans, ranging from cheap and useful to expensive and flashy.
Dota 2 doesn’t have an official merch store, but tournament organizer ESL has a few licensed options available for fans. The official store offers a few baseball caps embroidered with the iconic Dota 2 logo, but the real draw is the blind boxes. Each one contains one of a few different little vinyl statues of heroes enjoying each other’s company. The current batch features heroes on a beach vacation, a perfect gift to remind Dota 2 fans of warmer weather.
In addition, the official Secret Shop is still open from The International 2013. Tons of merch is still available, including extras from previous TI events. The International is the most prestigious event of the Dota 2 esports calendar, so merch from it would make a great Christmas present for any fan who couldn’t attend.
Dota 2 players spend quite a bit of time on the computer, so improving their experience would be a very thoughtful gift. While a nice keyboard or mouse is appreciated, something Dota 2-themed is even better. SteelSeries makes a special Dota 2-themed gaming mouse with all the bells and whistles. It even has a matching RGB mousepad to go with it.
Since peripherals can be expensive, there are a few cheaper options. Mousepads are excellent choices, and it’s easy to make custom ones featuring their favorite hero. Gifters should let their giftees know they fully expect them to win more ranked matches with their upgraded gear. Fans also make Dota 2 keycaps to give their existing keyboard some flair. Lastly, every player could use a cute plushie to sit on their desk.
Dota 2’s unique art style has inspired countless artists, and many of them sell prints of their creations. Mike Hirshon has haunting reimaginings of every hero available on his website, though prints can take a while to ship out. Try to figure out the recipient’s favorite heroes and then pick up some prints with a frame.
There are also other Dota 2 community artists out there whose prints would make an excellent gift. Redbubble is the easiest way to find prints of any hero in the game, and a lot of merch is ripped directly from the game itself. Keep the giftee’s aesthetic in mind when picking something up. Some may want a loading screen right from the game while others will want a chibi Tidehunter on a mug.
