Tekken 8 revealed, platforms and release date details

Tekken 8 has finally been given an official reveal, following a catastrophic misfire at Evo 2022.

Tekken 7 is a staple at fighting game tournaments, but the game is most certainly getting old at this point. Originally arriving in arcades in 2015, the game has massively developed over time with a long list of downloadable characters. Tekken 7 also drew attention with multiple guest characters ranging from Street Fighter to Final Fantasy to The Walking Dead. The game is still relevant to this day despite being more than seven years old.

Despite that, the announcement of a sequel was expected at Evo 2022 but didn’t actually materialize. Instead, fans were greeted with the announcement of a future announcement at an undisclosed date in the future. This turn of events drew groans at the time, but fans finally got a first look at Tekken 8 as part of the September State of Play.

When is Tekken 8 coming out?

It is unknown when Tekken 8 could come out, and odds are that it isn’t coming out soon.

The Tekken 8 announcement trailer shows what appears to be simulated gameplay footage of a match between Jin and Kazuya. The two go back and forth, showing off the new graphics with some familiar moves. That’s all that was shown though, leaving fans uncertain as to what other characters or new gameplay mechanics may be in the pipeline.

No word was given on when the game may come out, though. There wasn’t even a tease of what year it may come out in. Tekken 8 could be planned for the distant future or a release date could be saved for another event, such as the Tokyo Game Show which begins later this week.

Will Tekken 8 come out on Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, or PC?

Tekken 8 is set to be released on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam.

Though the announcement trailer was revealed during a PlayStation State of Play event, it’s not actually a PlayStation exclusive. As was seen with Street Fighter 6, the official materials posted on the publisher’s social media channels reveal the game is coming on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem as though it will be released on the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.

Console gamers will have to be on the lookout for a current-gen console. Nintendo Switch players are just left out in the cold.
