Teamfight Tactics Mobile release date revealed, new features added

Riot Games has just announced that Teamfight Tactics will arrive on mobile in just two days.

TFT Mobile will launch on March 19, arriving in the App Store and Google Play. This is Riot’s first-ever mobile game, and comes at a time where Riot is looking to rapidly expand its game catalog. The League of Legends publisher is working on a new tactical shooter, Valorant. It will also be launching an action platformer, RPG, and fighting game, all set in the League of Legends universe.

So far, TFT on mobile is the only one that has a set release date.

“Since launching TFT on PC just last year, we’ve been overwhelmed by the incredible response from players. Players have been asking us for more ways to play TFT, and we’re excited to share a mobile version that feels authentic to the PC experience while also keeping in mind the nuances and optimization features that mobile players love,” TFT product lead Dax Andrus said in a press release.

The mobile version of Teamfight Tactics will feature cross-play with TFT on PC.

The mobile title will launch with its third set of pieces, known as TFT: Galaxies. This features celestial-themed League of Legends champions that serve as pieces, as well as new customization options and in-game Little Legends avatars.

At launch, TFT on mobile will have some of the new features that are set to be added with the new season. This includes the Galaxies Pass and Galaxies Pass+, which serve as battle passes for TFT. Galaxies Pass is free, while Galaxies Pass+ costs 1,350 RP or about $10. Both offer in-game rewards for progress, which is achieved by playing the game and completing certain tasks.

There’s also Galaxies-themed Booms, which are personalized damage animations, as well as a new player tutorial for mobile players.

TFT’s mobile version will also bring in most of the key features of the PC version of the game, including ranked play which will be available when it launches later this week.

“When we created League of Legends over 10 years ago, we never dreamed it would become this popular with so many players around the world,” Riot Games co-founder Marc Merill marveled. “Now, as League enters its second decade, we’re thrilled to bring an authentic, competitive TFT experience to mobile, the first of many multi-platform efforts players will see this year.”

Teamfight Tactics is an eight-person strategy game where players combine League of Legends champions and items in different formations to defeat the other seven players in a match. Players set their champions on the board and watch as they automatically battle units from opponents’ boards.

When TFT first launched in 2019, it immediately became the most popular auto-battler in the genre and has stood tall over Auto Chess and Dota Underlords in the months since. Since launch, Riot stated that there’s been 80 million players globally.

Despite its growing popularity, Riot developers has stated in a recent blog that they prefer TFT as a game mode, rather than its own title, because it provides “development efficiencies when it comes to building code and content.”

Riot game director Andrei “Meddler” van Roon stated that they simply “get more done” with the game in its current state.
