The first day of the 2020 League of Legends World Championship main event will include a highly anticipated match between western giants Fnatic and Team SoloMid.

The two fan favorites will be jockeying for position, likely battling for second place as Korea’s Gen.G stands as the clear favorite in the group. That makes this a critical match for both teams as they look to gain an early edge on the other.

Fnatic enters the tournament after two LEC finals where it got knocked out by G2 Esports. Fnatic has been performing very well against other teams, but G2 seems to be their kryptonite.

The experience on Fnatic’s roster will be a big factor when they enter the Worlds stage, and talented jungler Oskar “Selfmade” Boderek will be looking to prove that he is one of the best junglers in the world.

TSM will play in its first World Championship since 2017 after some rough years where the organization didn’t manage to live up to its reputation. Mid laner Søren “Bjergsen” Bjerg will lead his team after a fantastic performance throughout the 2020 LCS Summer Split and will be the deciding factor for TSM’s success.

Just like Fnatic, TSM is a good mix of veterans and young players looking to make a name for themselves. Top laner Sergen “Broken Blade” Çelik and jungler Mingyi “Spica” Lu will play in their first big international tournament, so the pressure is on.

On paper, the match could be very even since both teams are looking to play aggressive in the early game through their junglers. The team with the most success in the jungle will most likely be the team to dictate the game, so a lot of pressure will be on Selfmade and Spica to perform.

Fnatic has a better international record, which will automatically give them an edge. They have solid players in every position, but TSM might have an advantage in the mid lane which improves the team’s chances.

Bjergsen has been on fire recently, while Fnatic mid laner Tim “Nemesis” Lipovšek has been a weak point for the team throughout the year. Nemesis proved last year that he can perform at Worlds, but Bjergsen has the tools to punish him if he has a bad day.

This is a must-watch for western League of Legends fans, and one of the most important of the first day of the Worlds 2020 main event. This will also likely set the stage for how the LEC vs. LCS rivalry plays out throughout the event.

Fnatic is favored against TSM at Worlds 2020

Even though TSM is the first seed from the LCS, it is Fnatic that has clear favorite status with bookmakers. The strength of competition is much higher in the LEC, and that translates to better odds for the team.

Fnatic stands at 1.57, while TSM is a 2.25 underdog with Winners.bet. This year’s Worlds has been full of upsets, so there might be some value in going against the odds as anything can happen in a best-of-one.

The match will be played on October 3 and will help decide which western region is on top.
