Syed “SumaiL” Hassan finds himself in an unfortunately familiar position. The carry player is a free agent after a split with Team Secret.

Despite dominating European Dota 2 in the last three years, Team Secret fell short of qualifying for the ESL One Stockholm Major. That left the organization looking to shake things up for the final tour ahead of The International 2022.

The odd man out in the equation was SumaiL. The organization announced that it’s parting ways with the veteran player in a succinct post on Twitter, simply saying “thank you.” A follow-up statement came shortly thereafter.

“This iteration of Team Secret has always had issues. We were trying to solve problems with role swapping or finding a better philosophy to play the game, but ultimately we couldn’t achieve consistency and fell flat. When things don’t work out, it’s best to just move on,” Team Secret captain Clement “Puppey” Ivanov said in a statement.

Puppey added that change is needed for “progress” and that there are “no hard feelings.” Puppey then wished SumaiL the best, admitting that he wished they had been able to achieve success together on Team Secret.

Where is SumaiL heading for TI11?

It is unknown what team SumaiL could end up on in the push toward The International 2022.

The split with Team Secret continues an unfortunate trend for SumaiL. Though he enjoyed a long and highly successful run with Evil Geniuses early on in his career, things have gone very poorly since then. He was benched by EG in 2019 and stayed in limbo for months.

He was eventually signed to OG but travel restrictions saw the team never really have a chance to play together. From there, he had an extended break that was followed by a short run with CIS squad Just Error. He then played as a substitute for Team Liquid before reuniting with OG for The International 2021. After a top-eight placement, he left OG and joined Team Secret. That run with Team Secret ultimately lasted just two tours.

As of this writing, this is the only roster change being made by Team Secret. It is unknown who could replace him on the team.

As for SumaiL, there are a number of potential landing spots in both Europe and North America in the push towards TI11. Given the fact that he remains a solid mid laner and carry player, there are many possible destinations.
