Team Liquid will be looking to chase first place in the 2022 LCS Spring Split once again, but to have a chance it will have to beat FlyQuest.

After losing to Cloud9 last week, Liquid lost possession of first place in the standings and will now look to bounce back against one of the big surprises so far this split in FlyQuest.

Despite lowered expectations from fans and experts going into the season, FlyQuest has put on a great fight and is currently sitting tied for fourth place in the league alongside Dignitas. With a 7-6 record, FlyQuest is looking to be in great shape to make the playoffs and could upset some of the big teams along the way.

To make an upset like that happen against Liquid, FlyQuest would have to put on one of its best performances yet this season. Liquid has proven to be very strong and quite versatile since the Lock In tournament and is eyeing the LCS spring trophy. On paper, FlyQuest is a team that Liquid should beat on any given occasion so there is no doubt who the favorite is despite FlyQuest’s solid split so far.

The young toucouille needs to beat out Bjergsen

One of the keys for FlyQuest to find the upset is having mid laner Loïc “toucouille” Dubois show up like he has done several times this split. The young French LCS rookie has impressed the league with games on Zilian, Syndra, Veigar, and others. His champion pool seems very big and he is eager to prove himself as one of the new prodigies in the LCS.

He will be going up against a true veteran in Søren “Bjergsen” Bjerg, who was also a promising new import many years ago. Since then, Bjergsen has claimed legendary status in the region and has done well for Liquid since coming out of retirement.

To find an edge in this matchup, toucouille will have to play towards his great mechanics and match Bjergsen in raw skill. If he can do that, then maybe he can outdo the experienced Dane and create a much-needed edge for his team early on.

If this happens, then FlyQuest might stand a chance at making this match close. If it doesn’t, then it’s a whole other issue for FlyQuest as Liquid seems to be winning most lanes on raw individual skill. This goes for both the top and bot lane, making the map very hard to play.

If Liquid gets to play its own style and dictate the pace of the game, FlyQuest is looking at an uphill battle that will be hard to deal with.

Many factors put Liquid as expected winner against FlyQuest

Looking at the big picture, it’s hard to find any edges for FlyQuest in this matchup against Liquid. The team is currently on a greater losing streak than Liquid is while also being several games behind in the standings. All this makes it hard to predict FlyQuest as the winner in this match despite it having shown some great performances so far. Even though FlyQuest has by far the higher odds for this matchup, we still choose to go with Liquid as the winner.

As the big favorites going into this match, Liquid will only be offering odds of 1.27 while FlyQuest has higher odds of 3.40 should it manage to win. The chances of that happening are small, so Liquid will be the safer pick here.

The match between Team Liquid and FlyQuest will take place on Sunday, March 20.
