Suning vs TOP Esports: Worlds 2020 betting analysis

TOP Esports and Suning are clashing in the semifinals to determine who will be representing the LPL in the final stage of the 2020 World Championship.

TES and Suning are playing on the second day of semifinals, and the winner will advance to the finals for a chance to keep the Summoner’s Cup in China. Year after year, the LPL sends a new batch of great teams to Worlds, and Worlds 2020 is no exception. Out of the four LPL squads in the event, three made it to the knockout stage. Unfortunately, all LPL teams got seeded into the same side of the bracket and JD Gaming had to go home early.

TES had a solid performance in the group stage and only dropped one game. In the knockout stage, things got a little dicey and TES had to complete a reverse sweep against Fnatic. It wasn’t the best look for TES as it heads to face the dark horse of the tournament.

Suning got labeled as the weakest LPL team at Worlds because of its roster’s lack of star power. The team stumbled in its first match, but quickly grew comfortable and ended up taking over group A. Suning had to face its first giant in the quarterfinals in the form of JD Gaming, a team Suning hadn’t beaten in 769 days. Suning had a dominant performance and despite not being the favorite to win, it’s looking like a threat against TES.

JackeyLove and huanfeng meet in semifinals at Worlds 2020

In the semifinals tease, the highlight is the rivalry between former teammates Hung “Karsa” Hao-Hsuan and Hu “SwordArt” Shuo-Chieh. Karsa and SwordArt played together under LMS team Flash Wolves. The teammates turned rivals used to dream of winning Worlds together, and now are meeting on opposite sides of the map. While that narrative sets a friendly mood for the match, it may well be a bloodbath, and it all starts in the bottom lane.

On Suning’s side, the breakout star is Tang “huanfeng” Huan-Feng, who gets compared constantly with Yu “JackeyLove” Wen-Bo. Funnily enough, huanfeng played as JackeyLove’s substitute in 2019 during the National Electronic Sports Tournament 2019 where Invictus Gaming finished in fourth place.

JackeyLove is no stranger to the Worlds stage. As a rookie, JackeyLove won the World Championship title and competed again the following year. This is the third year in a row that JackeyLove makes it as far as the semifinals. In 2019, IG was knocked out by FunPlus Phoenix, who ended up winning the entire event. JackeyLove can’t allow it to happen again.

Before Worlds, huanfeng was just another young and promising player in the LPL. Immediately, people started comparing him with JackeyLove. They still do, but huanfeng made something clear: He’s not to live under anyone’s shadow. In the quarterfinals, huanfeng had three outstanding games on Jhin and caught everyone’s attention. Huanfeng is getting a chance to put the comparisons to rest once and for all. He just needs to win in the semifinals.

TOP Esports favored to defeat Suning in Worlds 2020

JackeyLove and huanfeng will set the tone of the series, as whoever wins lane will take over the rest of the map. The bottom lane will see some intense skirmishes and the junglers must pay close attention to this side of the map.

On Winners.bet, TES is favored to take the series with 1.51 over Suning’s 2.39. There’s a difference between both teams, but not big enough to stop believing Suning. While TES is the favorite on every bookmaker, Suning still has a chance to pull off the biggest upset of the tournament.
