Streaming hit Among Us is coming to the Nintendo Switch

2020 has been a very good year for Among Us.

Innersloth’s social deduction game took Best Multiplayer Game at this year’s Game Awards earlier this month. While Felix “xQc” Lengyel didn’t agree that the simple and sometimes glitchy game deserved the win, it spent most of 2020 being a heavily played game that was consistently featured in big-name streamers’ live broadcasts.

New York state representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez also used the casual and entertaining title to make a name for herself on Twitch, raising money for communities in need.

Among Us became such a hit in 2020 that the two-year-old game’s sequel was canceled. Innersloth stated that they wanted to focus on improving the original game instead. Fans of the social game should expect a new airship map next year.

Among Us announced for Nintendo Switch

Among Us was originally for PC and mobile exclusively.

Earlier today, Nintendo surprised fans with an Indie World showcase live stream. One of the most notable updates was Among Us coming to Nintendo Direct today. For many people, Among Us should already be available on their console.

“Prep the airlock and join your crewmates in a multiplayer game of teamwork and betrayal!!” Nintendo tweeted.

The trailer for Among Us heading to Nintendo Switch was not a hit with fans, however. The voice acting wasn’t impressive, with many people pointing out how calm and even bored the actors sounded. Usually, friends and streamers can’t help but scream during a meeting. They also noted that nobody used the word “sus.”

Among Us was launched in 2018 but didn’t really get a lot of attention until 2020. The game is free on mobile, making it a perfect multiplayer game for casual gamers who don’t want to pay for it on Steam. With so many people staying inside and social distancing, Among Us has become a great way for people to play games and interact with each other.

Among Us also saw a lot of action on Twitch when popular streamers continued to play games together. This brought Among Us to the forefront of the streaming community and became a reliable form of entertainment. People loved watching big streaming names such as Pokimane, Disguised Toast, and Corpse Husband interact and argue in-game.

What is the goal of Among Us?

Among Us is a simple game with straightforward goals. Players are divided into two teams: crewmates and imposters. Crewmates are tasked with completing tasks throughout the spaceship without getting murdered by an imposter. If they complete enough tasks or figure out who the imposters are, crewmates win.

Imposters pretend to be crewmates while sabotaging various parts of the ship. This distracts players from completing their tasks. Imposters can also murder crewmates. They can win if they kill enough crewmates without anyone accurately identifying them as the murderers. They also win if the task gauge never fills up.
