Star Wars FPS game canceled amidst Respawn layoffs
Respawn Entertainment’s Star Wars FPS game has been officially canceled.
First announced at the start of 2022, the Star Wars game has been highly anticipated by fans of the sci fi franchise. The sudden cancelation has come as a surprise and disappointment.
For now, Respawn has let go of the team working on the Star Wars game during a recent round of layoffs and is planning to focus on Apex Legends and Star Wars: Jedi.
What is the Star Wars FPS game?
Before the sudden cancelation, Respawn’s Star Wars shooter was going to feature a Mandalorian main character and have more shooter-focused gameplay. Fans were excited to see how Star Wars would be reimagined into a FPS by the same company behind Apex Legends.
Instead, the team that was once working on the FPS were either laid off or have moved to other projects. This includes Apex Legends, Iron Man, Black Panther, and another Star Wars game.
Respawn is working on the third in the Star Wars: Jedi series. This game does not have a release date right now but fans are expecting it to be quite a while based on the series’ timeline so far.
