League of Legends fans were able to vote for the next champion to get a visual update and it has been decided that a Skarner VGU update is needed.
After winning the poll by a landslide, Skarner will be the next champion to get a VGU which will include a “massive reboot of his kit” and new visuals. The Crystal Vanguard won the poll with 33.4% of the votes, with Shyvana coming in second with 19.6% of the votes. Even though many fans have been craving an update for Shyvana, it wasn’t enough to beat out Skarner in this year’s poll.Â
According to the lead producer of champions Ryan “Reav3” Mireles, Skarner will be receiving some massive changes to finally increase his playrate. In the past, Skarner has received some pretty significant updates but it hasn’t been enough to get a solid playrate rolling.Â
“We’re super excited that Skarner won the VGU vote, as we think he has tons of potential to be something truly special on the League roster. We’ll look to keep his kidnapping ult in some form, but otherwise we’ll be rebuilding him from the ground up,” Reav3 said.
Shyvana wasn’t the only champion that was beaten by Skarner in this poll. Tryndamere, Kog’Maw, and Nocturne were all in the running as well but didn’t come close to a VGU for this season.
Even though Shyvana lost the vote by a lot, there’s still hope that the half-dragon will get some love within the near future. According to Reav3, Shyvana is a strong contender for the next VGU but nothing can be promised yet.Â
More news about the Skarner VGU will follow later this year, so fans will still have to wait at least a few months to learn more. Â
Besides the champion pool, it was also possible for fans to decide which skin line will get an update this year. It was between the Gothic, Infernal, and Arclight skins. With no doubt in mind, it was the Gothic skin line that won the poll with a whopping 49.4% of the votes.Â
This means that the Gothic skins will be receiving an overhaul this year, including champions like Annie and Orianna. The Gothic skin line is one of the very first that saw the light of day in League of Legends and clearly remains popular.Â
The next step for Riot will be to identify what feels good about the existing Gothic skins and find the right direction for the update. More news about the thematic revamp will follow later this year.Â
