s0m leaves Envy for Gen.G, sicK stands in for IEM Katowice qualifiers

Team Envy has announced the transfer of Sam s0m Oh to Gen.G.

In an official tweet from the organization, Envy announced that s0m’s transfer to Gen.G Esports’ Counter-Strike: Global Offensive team has been finalized. The 17-year-old player joins three other players on Gen.G’s first-ever CSGO roster.

Gen.G announced the signing on Twitter while also revealing that Complexity Gaming rifler Hunter “SicK” Mims would stand in for the new team at the upcoming IEM Katowice North American open qualifiers that which begin on December 10.

SicK was benched by Complexity after the team’s poor performance after the StarLadder Berlin Major.

On Friday, Gen.G announced that it has signed Timothy “autimatic” Ta, Damian “daps” Steele, and Kenneth “koosta” Suen from Cloud9. That signing had been rumored since early November, weeks before the official announcement.

s0m leaves Envy, joins GEN.G’s CSGO Squad

S0m came into the public eye in 2017 when the player’s abilities were featured on pro FPL streams across the CSGO scene. While many teams expressed interest in the young talent, his age at the time prevented him from competing in many of the larger tournaments.

Complexity Gaming signed s0m as a streamer in February 2018. In July of that year, s0m joined the amateur Counter-Strike team Test Takers before Team Envy scouted and signed him to their CSGO team in March.

The transfer doesn’t bode well for the future of Team Envy’s CSGO squad. The team has failed to post a first-place finish since 2017 and has struggled to perform well in notable tournaments, despite qualifying for events like DreamHack Masters Malmo and IEM XIV Chicago.

Gen.G’s new roster includes autimatic, daps, and koosta

S0m should fit in well with the other players on Gen.G’s roster. His skillset will likely complement autimatic’s proficiency with the AWP and he adds a good boost of firepower alongside koosta, who has matured into a capable rifler since switching off the AWP during his time with Ghost Gaming.

Gen.G has acquired a strong foundation for its Counter-Strike squad, joining a number of other new entries to the scene such as 100 Thieves, Evil Geniuses, and Team Secret.

Most recently, famed Dota 2 team OG announced their own star-studded CSGO squad on December 4. After months of rumors and a tedious tease about the announcement everyone knew was coming, OG announced that it would field Aleksi “Aleksib” Virolainen, Nathan “NBK-” Schmitt,  Valdemar “valde” Bjørn, Issa “ISSAA” Murad, and Mateusz “mantuu” Wilczewski.

Unlike OG, Gen.G left few hints about their final plans. Although the move leaked early, s0m’s signing came out of the blue.

Gen.G has not yet announced its fifth and final player.
