Defending LPL champions Top Esports will face off against the current leaders of the league, RNG, by the end of week 9 of the 2021 LPL Spring regular split.

Two giants are about to duke it out on Summoner’s Rift as Top Esports is looking to continue its winning streak. RNG will try to bounce back against one of the best LPL teams to keep the top spot of the league, after falling hard against JD Gaming in its most recent series. RNG has already locked a spot for playoffs, but a top seed could be crucial. Top Esports, on the other hand, hasn’t locked a spot in yet but is getting very close.

With only two losses so far this split, RNG is still entering the match in a strong position despite losing to JDG in week 8. RNG has proven itself as the big surprise in this LPL split, with lots of individual skill and great team synergy. On paper, RNG isn’t the strongest team in the league, but with great diversity in the draft and young players showing up to play, RNG has suddenly become a real contender for the trophy.

Most notable is RNG veteran Li “Xiaohu” Yuan-Hao, who has performed to incredible standards after he swapped to the top lane for the 2021 season. Even against some of the best top laners in the world, Xiaohu has been able to outperform them and show that he is nowhere near done as a professional.

For Top Esports, the split has been a bit different. With high expectations going into the season, Top Esports started out very slow with some rough first weeks. Moving on to the later part of the split, Top Esports is finally starting to show its 2020 form and that could be scary for the rest of the league.

With Top Esports in form, it will take something special to stop them. Top Esports is currently undefeated in the past three weeks and is reaching for the top positions in the league. Top Esports has four games left of the split, so there is plenty of time to catch up to the top teams.

Beating RNG will be another move in the right direction for Top Esports, but RNG might also be the perfect team to stop them.

Top Esports favorites to take down LPL’s first-place team RNG

RNG might be placed at the top of the LPL, but Top Esports is still considered the favorites in this matchup according to the bookmakers. Top Esports still need to lock in a spot in the playoffs and will without a doubt do everything to reach the top positions before the end of the regular split. With a six-game winning streak, Top Esports is currently looking like the hottest team in the league and that can end up hurting RNG. The defending LPL champions are looking for blood and won’t go easy in the last games of the regular split.

The game will still be close according to the odds, but Top Esports is favored with an odds of 1.64. For an RNG win, it’s possible to get an odds of 2.12

The important match between RNG and Top Esports kicks off on Saturday, March 20.
