Several changes are set for Valorant Champions Tour 2024 with an updated schedule and the introduction of Champions points, developer and tournament organizer Riot Games announced today.
There will soon be a new way to measure the success of teams with Champions points set to act as the unifying mechanism across all of the international leagues and the global tournaments, Riot said in a release today.
While specific details are yet to be released, Riot said the new point system would act as a way to measure performance and the qualification method for global events.
Teams in each of the international leagues will likely rack up points throughout the season for the top teams to be rewarded with qualification to global tournaments.
Previously, teams secured placements for these global tournaments from the playoff stage in the international leagues. For example, Natus Vincere finished in the top four of the regular split in the EMEA league and was thereby placed into the group stage of VCT Masters Tokyo.
These Champions points may be used to impact seeding, also. For example, if a team finishes first in one split but has a difficult season in the next, they could still qualify for a major tournament with a middle-of-the-pack placement since they accrued the most amount of Champions points for finishing first.
The way these Champions points will be utilized remains to be seen, however, as Riot will likely release more information later.
The updated VCT 2024 structure brings another Masters event for 2024 in Madrid, Spain, which is set to take place around May next year.
Another international league is set to be added alongside EMEA, Americas, and Pacific, also. Following the game’s successful release in China, the country will get its own league to participate in the global VCT circuit.
