Riot Games has announced the Teamfight Tactics: Galaxies Championship, the first global competition for the title, with a $200,000 prize pool.

Riot is ready to launch the competitive scene for TFT with a global tournament open to all players. TFT: Galaxies Championship will take place at the end of the set and will feature sixteen players from all over the world representing their respective regions. The exact timing for the competition will be revealed at a later date.

The developer created a clear path for aspiring competitors. Each region has its own system with different events and qualifiers. In North America, it all starts on the ladder. Every week, the players will receive points based on their position in the ranked ladder. The top 10 point-earners will qualify for the regional finals taking place mid-August.

In addition to that, North America will host a series of online tournaments where the players can compete to earn points. The top two point-earners will qualify for finals. Four more players will come out of the partner qualification for a total of 16 players. All 16 players will compete in the regional finals, and two winners will represent North America in the TFT: Galaxies Championship.

To be eligible for the competition, players must be ranked Platinum or above. The competition officially starts on the first week of May.

TFT is ready for competitive, esports tournaments

Riot first announced its intentions to launch a competitive scene back in October during the 10-year celebration. So far, Riot has organized two invitationals to commemorate the release of TFT: Rise of the Elements and TFT: Galaxies. This is the first competition open to all players, but we can expect to see some popular names highlighting the field of entries. Team Liquid, G2 Esports, and Golden Guardians are some of the organizations with TFT players in their ranks.

The competitive scene will not be limited to Riot’s tournaments, either. According to the announcement, Riot is working on creating tools that will make it easier for other organizers to operate tournaments.
