It has been announced that the rumours were true and all-star AD carry Martin “Rekkles” Larsson will return to Fnatic for the 2023 LEC season.

For much of Fnatic’s existence as a European League of Legends organization, it has been synonymous with Rekkles, the franchise ADC who’d carried them to many domestic victories. After his departure to G2 and subsequent demotion to the French regional league, the legendary marksman is returning to the LEC in his iconic orange and black jersey.

Rekkles returns to Fnatic for LEC 2023

Rekkles was one of the most well-known and storied players in the European league, easily the most veteran marksman in the LEC for many years. After his sudden departure from long-time team Fnatic to rivals G2 Esports was met with disappointing results, Rekkles was moved to a regional league in France to play for Karmine Corp in 2022.

To many fans, it was only a matter of time before he returned to the LEC. It was announced by both Fnatic and Rekkles that he would be rejoining the organization with which he made his name. Rekkles has spoken out about how the contract he signed with G2 Esports ended up restricting his options in the previous season, and it seems Karmine Corp has been willing to unchain him from that particular contract in his return to the LEC with Fnatic. While there was discussion of him possibly playing support, Rekkles will be returning to his iconic position as an AD carry.

Rekkles’ departure from the LEC is one of many examples of players departing G2 Esports being unable to find new opportunities due to high buyouts and limited options, something Rekkles has spoken out on. After a successful year in a regional league, it seems many LEC fans are ready to see if the legendary marksman can live up to his previous expectations of dominance.
