Digital Athletics may have finished eighth in its group for the Kick-off Cup, but one of its players still managed to come away as the biggest winner of the day.

After finishing his sets on day three of the event, Mert “ABeautfulDeath” Ozturk brought girlfriend Zeynep “ritalel” Sualp on stage. Though the couple had been playing against each other earlier in the day, with Ritalel repping We Need a Home and ABeautifulDeath playing for Digital Athletics, the competition apparently only brought them closer together.

Live on broadcast, ABeautfulDeath dropped to a knee and proposed, with Ritalel saying yes. The moment was clipped and quickly went viral.

The PEL’s Kick-off Cup is a unique event that brings together established pro teams from the PEL and a number of “Contender” teams. ABeautfulDeath and Digital Athletics are a regular part of the PEL, while Ritalel and the Turkish We Need A Home squad made their way in through the Middle East and Africa qualifiers.

The couple had the misfortune of landing in the same group for the Kick-off Cup’s group stage, with both Digital Athletics and We Need A Home placed into Group A. Neither team did especially well, but Digital Athletics’ eighth-place finish allows the team to advance on to the Finals stage. We Need A Home finished 15th in the group and was eliminated from the event.

The group had a surprising outcome with some contenders shining brightly. Six of the eight teams eliminated from the group are current PEL squads, with Natus Vincere and Digital Athletics being the only PEL teams to survive.

Now headed to the Finals, ABeautfulDeath and his team will face stiff competition in the event including PEL elite teams ENCE Esports, Team Liquid, and Ninjas in Pyjamas.

The next stage of the Kick-off Cup will begin on May 3.
