Pro League team to train at one of Europe’s biggest stadiums
Pro League team to train at one of Europe's biggest stadiums
ExceL Esports has announced Twickenham Stadium as the location for its training facility in 2019.
ExceL is making big moves in 2019, as the organization that was recently chosen to compete in the LEC, formerly known as the EU LCS.
The fourth-largest European stadium is located in southwest London. With a seating capacity of 82,000, the location will be opening its doors to esports competitors for the first time.
The ExceL organization announced that they would be moving away from the current gaming house model in order to provide players with a better separation between their work and personal lives.
“We think that from a mentality perspective, it helps enable the players to come to work to practice with a different mindset, but it also gives them their own space away from work and switch off,” said Joel Holmes-Darby, exceL’s director of esports.
The new training facility includes such amenities as a gym, catering service, and scrimmage rooms. According to the team, the scrimmage rooms are designed to recreate the on-stage environment players experience during professional league games.
LEC games take place at Riot’s League of Legends studio in Berlin, but exceL plans to continue operating out of London. Every week, the team will fly from London to Berlin to compete and will then return for more practice.
The British organization was one of the last teams confirmed for the LEC. Originally, Riot Games announced Movistar Riders and North as participants in the league but in a last-minute shake-up, exceL took one of those slots.
The team received a major investment from Guinevere Capital in September 2018 and is now ready to make a name for itself in the LEC.
