Valve has announced a crossover between two of its biggest properties, bringing a Cave Johnson announcer pack to Dota 2.
Dota 2 has a variety of alternate announcer packs for purchase, replacing the iconic narrator with a variety of personalities and characters. The latest of this will bring Portal’s boisterous founder of Aperture Science, Cave Johnson, to Dota 2 with an appropriately nonsensical auditory reskin.
The latest character that players can opt into having as their announcer inside their game is Portal’s Cave Johnson, the self-assured and loudmouthed founder of Aperture Science. The new announcer pack was previewed in a comedy skit produced by Valve, featuring the fictional process of getting new announcer packs set up via Valve head Gabe Newell.
Cave Johnson Announcer Pack
The skit takes fans through a wild ride of a failed announcer packs before Gabe Newell decides it’s simply easier to phone up Johnson on a potato phone. The Cave Johnson Announcer Pack will be available for purchase through the Battle Pass: Part Two starting on November 3, 2022.
The voice actor for the Cave Johnson announcer pack is the same as the voice actor for Cave Johnson in the portal series, actor J.K. Simmons. Fans will likely best know Simmons for his storied acting career, playing J. Jonah Jameson in two separate Spider-Man franchises, as well as parts in Invincible, Whiplash, and The Legend of Korra.
The actor’s iconic performance as Cave Johnson is a key part of Portal 2’s smash hit status, with Simmons’ voice interjecting ridiculous quips and stories throughout the player’s exploration of the Aperture Science facility. Exactly what fans’ games will sound like with Johnson calling the shots has yet to be seen, but it’s sure to be humorous knowing Valve’s tone when it comes to Portal.
