Origin Forme Palkia and Dialga are stronger than their counterparts in Pokemon GO, but what’s the best counter to them in raids?

The Pokemon Legends: Arceus variants of the gen-four legendaries first arrived in Pokemon GO in January 2024 as part of the Sinnoh-themed Pokemon GO Tour event. While the introduction of new versions of familiar legendaries is always exciting, these two took things a step further. By using candies, players can extend the duration of items that are used over a period of time.

And of course, these Pokemon are just strong. That cuts both ways, however, as Pokemon GO players are going to need to use teams with solid counters to the duo in order to defeat and catch them.

How to counter Origin Forme Dialga in Pokemon GO

The best counters to Origin Forme Dialga are Pokemon like Lucario, Excadrill, and Cobalion.

Origin Forme Dialga maintains the strong dragon-steel typing of its base form. This is a tricky combination to deal with, as its only weaknesses are ground and fighting-type moves, making it tough to counter relative to Origin Forme Palkia.

In Pokemon GO, it also has a whopping eight resistances and two double resistances. It’s not just defensively strong either, as dragon and steel attacks can take down many of the go-to Pokemon of many players.

The one big thing is that it has trouble hitting steel-type Pokemon. This makes it so offense-oriented steel Pokemon like Lucario and Excadrill can hit it hard while resisting its strongest moves. Here’s a quick list of the best counters to Origin Forme Palkia:

Each of these Pokemon have access to strong ground or fighting-type moves that can hit Origin Forme Dialga hard. Metagross, Steelix, and Lucario also all have the option to mega evolve, making them an even bigger threat. Players lacking these Pokemon can look to hard-hitting fighting and ground types like Machamp, Hariyama, or Conkeldurr.

How to counter Origin Forme Palkia in Pokemon GO

Zacian, Sylveon, and many other Pokemon can counter Origin Forme Palkia in Pokemon GO.

Relative to Origin Forme Dialga, Palkia is easy to counter. Though dragon-water is a reasonably good typing, it doesn’t have the daunting list of resistances that dragon-steel does. It also lacks the steel-type coverage moves that make Dialga so deadly against fairy types.

This means players can take any of their powerful fairy-type Pokemon to take on Origin Forme Palkia. Though water moves are still threatening, the likes of Sylveon, Gardevoir, and Zacian are all powerful options. Here’s a list of Pokemon that can counter Origin Forme Palkia in Pokemon GO:

Additionally, both regular and Origin Forme Dialga can work as a reasonable counter to Palkia. In a pinch, the sheer number of powerful Pokemon with dragon-type moves makes this raid fairly easy to deal with.

It's not as easy to hunt certain things on that game as it is on something like Legends: Z-A or Scarlet and Violet, but you can endlessly play by walking around. The shiny odds are much higher, too. At 1/512 base odds, it's much more likely than in a mainline game, where the odds are 1/4096. If you're interested ...
