The Philadelphia Fusion has announced the locations of its three 2020 homestead weekends in a press release.
The home opener will take place on February 15 and will be held at the Met Philadelphia. The second round of homestead games will be held on the weekend of May 23 and will also be held at the Met Philadelphia. The venue recently went through renovations and reopened in December of last year.
The final set will be hosted at the Adrian Phillips Theater at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall on the weekend of June 6. Fusion CBO Joe Marsh discussed the reason for the move on Twitter.
“We wanted [the] opportunity to go outside of Philly proper and reward our strong and vocal New Jersey fans before Fusion Arena is built and ready in 2021,” Marsh said.
Announced in March, the Fusion Arena will be the first ground-up esports venue in the United States. The arena will seat 3,500 guests and will be nestled in between the Wells Fargo Center and Xfinity! Live complex. The Fusion will host their 2021 games there, with its groundbreaking set to take place on September 25.
Tickets for the 2020 season at the Met and the Boardwalk Hall go on sale on August 28 at 10 a.m. ET. The rest of the Overwatch League 2020 venues will also see their tickets go on sale that day at 10 a.m. local time.
Next year, the Overwatch League will see franchises host events in their home cities. The OWL began experimenting with this format in July with the Dallas Fuel. The Homestand Weekend was well received by fans despite some technical issues.
The schedule for the 2020 season was recently released with most home teams being confirmed. Not all venues have been decided as of this writing.
The Fusion are currently battling for a spot in the 2019 playoffs which will conclude at the Grand Finals hosted by the Wells Fargo Stadium in Philadelphia.
