Esports and baseball will collide this week when the San Francisco Shock attend an Oakland Athletics game at the Oakland Coliseum.
The Shock’s star DPS player Jay “sinatraa” Won will be throwing out the ceremonial first pitch of the game.
The San Francisco Shock franchise is owned by NRG Esports, an esports organization based in California. The Bay Area ties run even deeper for the organization — NRG’s primary owners are Sacramento Kings owners Andy Miller and Mark Mastrov.
NYXL’s Park “Saebyeolbe” Jong-ryeol threw the first pitch at a New York Mets Game last month.
“I’m more nervous about this than any other game that I’ve played,” Saebyeolbe said.
Saebeyeolbe had some extra pressure for his pitch, as Jeff Wilpon, the New York Mets owner, is the COO of NYXL ownership Sterling.VC. While the SF Shock finished in ninth place in the inaugural Overwatch League Season, they have been improving steadily while growing a dedicated Bay Area fanbase.
Sinatraa reportedly signed a $150,000 contract with the San Francisco Shock. Due to his age, he was not able to play until halfway through the season.
