Origen is returning to the LEC in 2019 with a roster full of European stars.
Spanish organization Origen is back in the LEC. The team and brand were acquired by Astralis’ parent company RFRSH Entertainment in November. After having fallen out of the top tier of European competition in 2016, the team is again ready to compete at the top.
Barney “Alphari” Morris is taking over the top lane. Alphari was one of the first players signed to the new Origen squad. He comes from Misfits Gaming, with whom he attended the World Championship 2017.
Former Unicorns of Love jungler Jonas “Kold” Andersen is also joining Origen in 2019. Unicorns of Love is not taking part in the new LEC, as the beloved team decided to continue competing outside the LEC.
Erlend “Nukeduck” VĂĄtevik Holm is the new mid laner for Origen. Nukeduck had a successful 2018 with the FC Schalke 04 squad. The team in blue finished the spring split in third place and the summer split in second, narrowly missing out on World Championship qualification.
In the bottom lane, Origen signed young player Patrik “Patrik” JĂrĹŻ, previously known as Sheriff, and experienced support Alfonso “Mithy” Aguirre RodrĂguez. Mithy is returning to Europe after a difficult year in North America wearing the TSM uniform. Origen fans will hope to see a return to form for Mithy after he struggled to live up to expectations at TSM.
Origen will be led by head coach AndrĂ© “Guilhoto” Guilhoto, who started his coaching career in 2017 with Vodafone Giants. In 2018, Guilhoto worked with summer runner-up Schalke.
Behind the scenes, former EU LCS caster Martin “Deficio” Lynge is acting as general manager.
The LEC begins play on January 18, 2019.
