PS5 design view to shift attention towards the PS5 Pro leaks regarding the design

Sony’s PlayStation 5 Pro, the upcoming mid-gen console upgrade, has been the subject of much speculation. Recent PS5 Pro leaks provided a glimpse into what we can expect from this highly anticipated device. Let’s see what’s to come!

Sony has yet to officially announce or reveal the PS5 Pro, but it is some-what of an open secret among the community. Recently, Dealabs.com claimed to have seen the console in-person leaking some shocking information. As per the PS5 Pro leaks, the console is set to be officially announced in early September 2024. This timing aligns with Sony’s previous pattern of releasing upgraded consoles, similar to the PS4 Pro’s September 2016 announcement. We all already had an idea of when and what was to come in terms of hardware, but recent reports reveal several odd design changes.

PS5 Pro design

The PS5 Pro leaked design

As per tradition, It is not odd for a mid-gen PlayStation upgrade to have some design changes. The recent PS5 Pro leaks reveal, that PS5 will be a bit thicker than the current model, but otherwise has the same shape. The leaks reveal three horizontal lines dividing the PS5 Pro chassis. This is a departure from the single horizontal line of the PS5 Slim. Perhaps this design tweak is aimed at giving the PS5 Pro a distinctive modern appearance. Unfortunately for us, the the same modular disk drive, as is on the PS5 Slim, is not yet confirmed. In terms of connectivity, there isn’t much change. PS5 Pro will have the same 2 USB-C ports near the power button.

Aside from the 3 stripes, there isn’t much of a change aesthetically, pointing to a bigger hardware change on the inside. The PS5 Pro will perform better than the standard version, but not enough changes to be called a PlayStation 6.

Since there hasn’t been in official announcement, all leaks should be taken with a grain of salt. Everyone is hoping that Sony follows their previous schedule which will aligns the release date of PS5 Pro in November 2024. Unfortunately, The specifics regarding pricing and availability are still not clear yet. Since, the PS5 Slim digital-only is priced at $450, speculations hint that PS5 Pro could go as high as $600. Will the upgraded hardware make enough of a difference to justify a new purchase? That we can’t say, but we all might know for sure soon.
