New OWL viewing options coming to Twitch
New OWL viewing options coming to Twitch
Overwatch League fans now have more viewing options on Twitch, but those options will cost them.
Overwatch League’s All-Access Pass for Season 2 introduces the Command Center, allowing Twitch viewers to choose their own in-game POV.
Fans can watch the match from any player’s point of view by selecting them from a UI menu. The Command Center also offers an overhead map view in addition to the standard broadcast view. The overhead map is part of a “three-feed template” tool, which allows viewers to add two other POV windows for simultaneous viewing.
For $14.99, the All-Access Pass also features Q&As with the pros featuring “behind-the-scenes access, insights, and tips,” along with VIP chat options, ad-free viewing, and two exclusive chat badges.
Fans with the All-Access Pass also receive 20% off Overwatch League merchandise and 200 Overwatch League tokens.
Despite a loyal following, the Overwatch League was often criticized in its first season for what could be a difficult viewing experience. The biggest complaint was how hard it could be to follow the action. The most important and busiest moments of the game were often the most difficult to follow, with heroes and abilities flying every which way and only one first-person perspective available at any given time.
The new Command Center feature was previously tested during the Overwatch World Cup in 2018.
“We wanted to create the ultimate superfan experience based on community feedback from last season,” said Twitch’s Matt McCloskey. “Since the biggest request was more personal ways to view the action, we’ve overhauled the Command Center for an evolved Twitch viewer experience.”
McCloskey went on to call the Command Center’s versatility “groundbreaking.”
Overwatch League Season 2 begins February 14.
