New game mode and weapons arrive with Fortnite patch
Fornite’s Season 7 is wrapping up soon, but that didn’t stop Epic Games from dropping a hefty patch.
Version 7.30 of the game has launched and brings changes to Creative, Save the World, and Battle Royale. Included in the changes are a new weapon, a limited time game mode, and a host of other small tweaks.
The biggest addition to 7.30 is the Chiller Grenade, a new thrown weapon that combines the freezing effect of a Chill Trap with the push of a Pulse Grenade. It can be used to send enemies sliding uncontrollably off ledges, into the storm, and out of buildings.
On top of the addition of the Chiller Grenade, Battle Royale saw a number of familiar weapons thrown into the vault. The SMG, Heavy Shotgun, Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle and Burst Rifle have all been taken out of circulation, with the Suppressed SMG being the only new addition.
Solid Gold mode prunes out even more weapons, though. The limited time offering allows players to avoid Battle Royale’s early game scrounging by exclusively including Legendary-tier weapons, offering a more immediate gunslinging experience.
Creative Mode now gives players more flexibility in how death and respawning is handled. A new eliminations win condition was added, alongside the ability to control respawn timers. Creators were also given a new toy in the form of a giant playable keyboard, as well as prefabs of the arctic bases that have appeared on the Battle Royale map this winter.
Those who enjoy Fortnite’s Co-op mode also have a new trick up their sleeve in the Spectral Blade. The ghostly sword can be unlocked through the Frostnite Challenge.
These gameplay changes were accompanied by a number of bug fixes and optimizations to different platforms. In particular, mobile players received needed controller support and Nintendo Switch users will enjoy smoother visuals and fewer crashes.
The full patch notes can be found on the
official Fortnite website.
