MrSavage wins $250,000 DreamHack Anaheim Fortnite tournament

Popular Fortnite pro Martin “MrSavage” Foss Andersen won DreamHack Anaheim’s Fortnite tournament this weekend.

MrSavage won $30,000 of the $250,000 prize pool, leaving the remaining amount to be split between the 99 runners-up. Second place went to Ghost Gaming’s Timothy “Bizzle” Miller, while nanolite took third place.

“I’m just really happy all my hard work has paid off. I’ve been playing a lot over the past year trying to really improve,” MrSavage said. “I feel like it’s been really well-organized and it’s been really fun.”

While no official numbers were released, a press release from the event called it the “largest community tournament” to ever take place at a DreamHack festival, boasting over 1,200 participants.

The Fortnite tournament was Bring Your Own Computer, meaning it was open to anyone who brought their own setup. There were no qualifiers for DreamHack’s tournament. It was also open to all ages.

Even though the tournament wasn’t streamed, there was constantly a crowd of viewers hovering around the battle royale’s designated area and around the top contestants in the BYOC area.

MrSavage dominates SoCal Fortnite competition at DreamHack

Yesterday, MrSavage placed 14th in the semi-finals of the event.

“Played pretty well,” he tweeted. “Popping off in the finals tomorrow.”

At first, MrSavage had a shaky start in the finals.

“Why do I always only get one big bot in six chests my first game and then get bodysniped?” he ranted after a bad round.

Despite his growing frustration, the 15-year-old Norwegian player vowed to keep a 40-point average per game. While he continued to not have any luck with loot boxes, he tweeted to his followers a reminder “not to grief” because “one good game” might be around the corner. And that will earn you some money. He ended up having a 45-point average throughout the finals.

MrSavage turned the corner, and surged his way into the top spot.

“Worked so hard for this shit, bro. Words can’t describe how happy I am right now,” he tweeted after the victory.

MrSavage was recently signed to 100 Thieves and the owner, Nadeshot, congratulated him on Twitter by showing off a gift he was receiving for joining the team. It was a gold chain that read “100 Thieves.” MrSavage retweeted the celebratory post, calling 100 Thieves the “best org.”
