Jimmy “MrBeast” Donaldson is known as one of the highest-paid content creators on YouTube. Now, the charitable influencer is looking to give away some money in one of the most viral ways possible; a Squid Game recreation.
Squid Game, a Korean drama in the battle royale genre with a focus on class and capitalism, is one of the most popular shows on Netflix at the moment. It has also become the subject of many memes all over social media, as well as the focus of a lot of YouTuber videos. But MrBeast’s is bound to be the biggest one yet.
MrBeast has not yet revealed when the video will be dropped but has been giving updates on social media. On Twitter, MrBeast showed some eye-popping recreations of the show. He said on November 3 that the “sets are coming together.”
While the photos depict possible recreations of Squid Game’s original challenges, MrBeast has not confirmed what will happen in the video. He did say that there will be a whopping 456 contestants taking part in the Squid Game replica.
Political Twitch streamer Hasan “HasanAbi” Piker asked if MrBeast was planning to kill people like in the original Netflix show. LGBTQ+ content creator Alastair “Eret” asked if people will die in real life if they die in the game. To both questions, MrBeast responded, “no comment.”
There are apparently 456 contestants taking part in MrBeast’s video. But it hasn’t been said who these people exactly are. Are they fans? Other streamers?
It’s said that the contestants are going to be “real,” meaning random people rather than MrBeast’s friends. It is also possible that fans had to take part in a raffle to get into the competition, with one fan claiming on Twitter that they “won a spot” by buying a hoodie.
The Twitter user also claimed that they had to be vaccinated to participate.
According to the photos shared on MrBeast’s Twitter, MrBeast has a Red Light, Green Light challenge being painted. He also recreated the scene where contestants must carve out perfect shapes out of dalgona to survive. Now that players know the twist of that game, it’s unclear what MrBeast will do to make that challenge fair. He also recreated the village where players took part in the marble challenge.
Earlier in October, MrBeast asked fans how to recreate the tug-of-war scene. Without the threat of death or the mystery of the upcoming challenge, the scene seemed a little “eh” to include.
Fans suggested a raffle or blind pairing, while others said capture the flag may be a more exciting challenge in this instance.
It will be interesting to see what MrBeast has come up with to keep Squid Game fresh and exciting in his own YouTube version of the popular series.
