After quickly rising into the top tier of Counter-Strike 2, esports organization The MongolZ is jumping into Dota 2 with a surprising starting roster.

Fans of both of Valve’s major esports can now support The MongolZ in both titles. The Mongolian organization has announced the signing of a Dota 2 roster to complement its rising CS2 team. However, Dota 2 fans outside of Southeast Asia may not be familiar with the five players soon to wear the black and gold.

Here’s a quick rundown of The MongolZ’ new Dota 2 roster and what the five players have already accomplished.

The MongolZ Dota 2 roster

The starting roster for The MongolZ Dota 2 includes the following players.

  • Lee “CDR” Jia He (Carry)
  • Denise “Wonder’boy” Danial bin Abdullah (Mid)
  • Julius “JG” Galeon (Offlane)
  • Khishigbat “khishka” Byambaa (Soft support)
  • Travis “Castaway” Waters (Hard support)

Fans are mostly likely to recognize CDR, JG, and Castaway from last season’s Neon Esports roster. The trio managed to qualify for a handful of major events including Games of the Future 2024. However, the squad ultimately failed to make much of an impact and shut down in June of this year. The players stuck together for a few more events to roughly similar results.

khishka, on the other hand, is transferring in from IHC Esports, another Mongolian esports sponsor. He joined the above trio for Samsung Odyssey Cup, winning the event and the $8,000 grand prize.

Mysterious mid player Wonder’boy completes the MongolZ Dota 2 roster. He’s the least established of the stack, but he played with the rest of the above players for a handful of events including the Odyssey Cup win.

Astute fans will know that this is not the first time The MongolZ has fielded a Dota 2 roster. The MongolZ sponsored another team in the earlier days of the game’s competitive scene. It hosted various all-Mongolian squads between 2014 and 2017, though it never earned any notable wins and failed to appear at any iterations of The International. Hopefully, the team will have more success with the latest iteration.
